Shelter Case Manager Intern

SUMMARY OF POSITION           

The Case Manager Intern will help provide case management services to residential program participants. Responsibilities include facilitating evening groups, connecting clients with internal and external resources, and supporting weekly one-on-one meetings. The intern will also help coordinate services with external agencies, assist in shelter programs and activities, and provide therapeutic interventions. Additional tasks may include covering the crisis line, documenting client services, and conducting intakes for new shelter residents as needed.

TIME REQUIREMENTS

  • Spring/Summer 2025 
  • About 15 – 20 hours per week; capability to have a block schedule; hours flexible
  • Shelter Staff Meetings Tuesday at 1:00 pm (optional)
  • FAC Staff Meetings first Wednesday of the month at 2 pm (optional)
  • Occasional evenings depending on scheduled activities
  • Biweekly check-in with the Volunteer Coordinator

Education/Experience:      

  • Junior or Senior preferred
  • Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Public Health, Sociology and/or related fields
  • Experience working with individuals and familes of diverse backgrounds
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care

Skills/Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience and ease working with a diverse population of clients
  • Ability to handle crisis situations with sensitivity and assertiveness
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrates effectiveness as a member of a team as well as the ability to work independently and to take initiative
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize job responsibilities
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback
  • Ability to accomplish multiple tasks that require a variety of skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate data and documentation of client services
  • Ability to resolve conflict
  • Bilingual preferred

License/Credentials:

  • Valid Texas Driver's License and clear driving record. 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CHILDREN'S PROGRAM INTERN:

  • Collaborate with FAC staff, volunteers and fellow interns.
  • Act in accordance with FAC policies and procedures and adhere to trauma-informed care.
  • Provide case management to primary and secondary survivors of domestic violence.
  • Coordinate and implement evening shelter groups.
  • Provide crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with case management team and other shelter staff.
  • Provide crisis line coverage as necessary.
  • Read and interpret documents such as operating manuals and professional journals.
  • Write routine reports, correspondence and appropriate case notes.
  • Document all client services as well as community outreach work.
  • Maintain a secure, clean and respectful shelter location and work environment.
  • Cleaning as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
