McLennan County

David Ralph Peeler, 44

David Ralph Peeler died when his ex-girlfriend, Leah Breuer, 36, stabbed him multiple times and killed him in his apartment. Breuer then fled with her sister, Joann Arey Cometsevah, 34. David’s brother-in-law discovered David deceased. Breuer has a history of violence towards David and previously assaulted David in October 2022. Authorities charged Breuer with murder and issued a $500,000 bond. Authorities charged Cometsevah with murder and tampering with evidence and she remains in custody on a $1 million bond. David is survived by his daughter, age 9.

Maria Fernanda Guererro, 21

Maria Fernanda Guererro died when her ex-boyfriend, Gustavo Rojas, 26, shot and killed her inside a vehicle. Rojas also shot and injured Isai Rajardo, 21. At the time of the murder, Rojas had been awaiting trial for allegedly assaulting Maria by strangling and hitting her in October 2020. Rojas was released on a $5,000 bond, the conditions of which prohibited him from contacting Maria. However, the conditions of his bond did not prohibit him from purchasing or possessing a firearm. He pleaded guilty and is serving a 45-year sentence for Maria’s murder along with a concurrent 20-year sentence for Isai’s aggravated assault. Maria is survived by her son.

Queen Tinishia Louise Brooks, 25
December 29, 2023 | WACO
Queen Tanishia Louise Brooks died when her partner, Kevin Eugene Reese, 28, assaulted and strangled her at her home. Queen’s son was at home. A family member went to the apartment for a welfare check and found Queen unresponsive. Emergency responders transported Queen to the hospital where she died three days later. Authorities arrested and charged Reese with felony aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. He is being held on a $1 million bond. Queen is survived by her daughter and her son.

Navarro County

Amy Clemons, 46
JANUARY 28, 2023 | BARRY
Amy Clemons died in her home after her husband, Jerod Clemons, 46, shot and killed her. Law enforcement and medical personnel responded to a report of an unconscious shooting victim. When they arrived, they found Amy deceased. Amy had separated from Clemons prior to the shooting. Authorities arrested and charged Clemons with murder. Amy is survived by her two daughters.

205 Texans were killed by their intimate partners. This number includes 179 women and 26 men, including four LGBTQ+ victims. Homicide perpetrators also killed 16 family members, friends, or bystanders and injured an additional 12 victims. The victims included four children who were killed and three children who were injured. Two hundred eighteen children and adults lost a parent to domestic violence.
